Next Saturday, Southampton Choral Society invites audiences to our Summer Concert – an inspiring afternoon of music celebrating the beauty, power and mystery of the sea.

The concert brings together two contrasting English masterpieces. Elgar's Sea Pictures offers moments of lyrical reflection, while Stanford's Songs of the Fleet captures the excitement and adventure of life at sea. Both works have been specially arranged for choir, with Stanford's arrangement created especially for this performance by Musical Director Andrew Hayman, making this a unique opportunity to hear familiar music in a fresh new way.

Adding another watery dimension to the afternoon is a guest performance by Hannah Leary, this year's winner of the Alban Rees-Jones Cup. Hannah, an outstanding young pianist from Southampton, will perform Debussy's atmospheric Jardins Sous la Pluie (Gardens Under the Rain), showcasing the exceptional talent the Society's annual competition was created to support.

Southampton Choral Society has been bringing outstanding choral music to audiences across the region for more than 80 years, and our Summer Concert promises an afternoon of memorable music for seasoned concertgoers and newcomers alike.

With the performance just a week away, now is the perfect time to book your place and enjoy an uplifting musical journey inspired by the sea.
